A senior city police officer has argued against transferring traffic police duties from the Royal Thai Police (RTP) to local administrative bodies due to concerns that the latter would not be as efficient as the police. Pol Maj Gen Jirapat Phumjit, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau said traffic police are empowered to enforce traffic regulations and solve traffic problems. When traffic congestion takes place in a certain spot, it also impacts traffic in other areas.
